As of my last update in September 2021, Dhela Safari Zone is one of the newer safari zones in Jim Corbett National Park. It is located in the southern part of the park, and like Jhirna Safari Zone, it remains open for visitors throughout the year. Dhela offers a unique and offbeat experience for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, away from the more crowded zones.
Here are some key features of the Dhela Safari Zone:
- Flora: Dhela is characterized by a diverse landscape, including dense forests, grasslands, and riverine belts. The vegetation in this zone comprises a mix of dry deciduous forests with Sal, khair, semal, and other tree species, providing a rich habitat for wildlife.
- Fauna: Dhela Safari Zone is known for its varied wildlife. While tiger sightings can be relatively less common compared to some of the core zones, visitors can spot animals such as elephants, leopards, spotted deer (chital), sambar deer, wild boars, and a variety of bird species. Dhela is also a haven for birdwatchers, as it offers opportunities to spot several avian species.
- Accessibility: Dhela Safari Zone can be easily reached from the main entrance gate of the park at Ramnagar. Being open all year round, it provides a peaceful and serene environment for tourists to explore.
- Safari Timing: Similar to other safari zones, Dhela offers two safari slots per day—one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The safari timings may vary depending on the season and are subject to change by the park authorities.
- Safari Modes: Jeep safaris are the primary mode of exploration in Dhela Safari Zone. The safari vehicles are operated by the park authorities and are accompanied by trained guides who provide information about the park’s wildlife and ecosystem.
- Permits and Bookings: To visit the Dhela Safari Zone, you need to obtain a permit, which can be booked online through the official website of Jim Corbett National Park or through authorized tour operators.
- Best Time to Visit: Dhela Safari Zone can be visited throughout the year, but the best time to explore the park is during the dry season, from November to June. During this period, the chances of wildlife sightings are higher as animals gather around water sources due to the limited availability of water.
Dhela Safari Zone offers a quieter and more serene experience compared to some of the core zones, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a more tranquil wildlife encounter. As with any safari experience, it’s essential to follow the guidelines set by the park authorities, maintain a safe distance from the wildlife, and respect the natural habitat of the animals during your visit to Dhela Safari Zone in Jim Corbett National Park.
